Chouka Bars: rear riser paragliding handles
The Chouka Bars improve grip, air feel, steering precision and comfort when flying with the rear risers of the paraglider. They also reduce the feeling of cold caused by the pressure of the risers or lines on the gloves.
* The Chouka Bars rear riser paragliding handles are sold in pairs; rubber protectors to protect the risers are included.
Description
Chouka Bars are designed to improve control and comfort when flying a paraglider on the rear risers:
- Better grip and piloting comfort.
- Precision of control inputs and increased feel for the airmass.
- Reduced feeling of cold and fatigue.
- Simple installation on the rear risers for immediate use.
Dimensions
The Chouka Bars rear-riser control handles are compatible with risers up to a max width of 20 mm (standard on most modern wings).
They are available in two sizes:
| Size | Recommended use | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 50 mm | Minimal footprint on the cockpit; Grip with 2 fingers (1 on each side of the riser) |
25 g |
| 90 mm | Better control; Grip with 4 fingers (2 on each side of the riser) |
33 g |
Design
- Riser protection: integrated soft rubber pads to avoid damaging the risers.
- Take-off safety: no open slots and rounded shapes to limit the risk of lines getting trapped.
- Gear preservation: a design that allows a low tightening torque without slipping (5 N.m is enough), so the risers aren’t crushed or damaged.
Assembly
Repeat the procedure for each rear riser:
- Slide the soft pads into the slots of the handles and caps to protect the risers.

- Place the rear riser in the recess on top of the pad. Place the small cap with its pad on top.

- Ensure the nuts are correctly seated in the cap and lightly tighten the 2 screws.
- Adjust the desired height/position of the control handle.
- Check the riser only contacts the soft pads on each side.

- Tighten the 2 screws progressively and evenly to 5 N.m.
- The screw length protruding past the nut should be identical on each side.
- Tighten just enough to prevent slipping: do not crush the riser.
Safety
Rear-riser control handles are intended for experienced pilots or those trained in this piloting technique.
Checks at installation:
- Correct but not excessive tightening (5 N.m).
- Even tightening between the two screws.
- Risers must only be in contact with the soft pads.
Additional pre-flight checks:
- No line trapped.
- Handles securely fastened.
Maintenance
- Inspection every 100 flight hours or once a year: check the condition of the risers.
- For long-term storage: slightly loosen the screws.
Rear-riser flying
Rear-riser flying replaces brake use in order to:
- Maintain control of the airfoil under speedbar.
- Optimize transitions and glides.
- Improve cross-country performance.
- Reduce drag when accelerated.
In turbulent conditions it is mainly aimed at experienced pilots, but it is recommended to progressively get familiar with this technique early in your progression.

Al momento sembra bello, ma pare un po’ fragile
Both sizes are good, recommend the wider for wings where one uses a lot of rear riser steering.
I’ve got the small ones, fits perfectly, good grip. Highly recommend them for use on index and middle vinger. Together with the toggle balls a nice orange upgrade on my risers.
Ich bin super zufrieden mit den Handles, top Verarbeitung, schön leicht und sinnvolles Design
Nice design, easy to install. I have now flown with them yet. I hope they won’t damage my risers. There were some sharp edges that I sanded down to make them smooth all over.
Super, parfait pour mettre deux doigts dessus et ne s’emmêle pas dans les suspentes. Montage facile.
